India wins first test against Australia

India wins first test against Australia by eight wickets in Chennai on Monday and take 1-0 lead in the four match series.

Australia resumed their second innings at 232 for nine with 40 runs overnight lead.

On the final day, Nathan Lyon got out on 11 and Australia gave India 50 runs target.

Indian spinners took all 20 Australian wickets and Ashwin alone took 12.

Chasing 50 India lost two quick wickets. Murali Vijay was out for 6 and Virender Sehwag was for 19. Sachin Tendulkar led the team to their much needed victory.

It was a perfect test match for captain MS Dhoni. First he has created history by making 224 runs and now with this win, he becomes the most successful Test captain for India, equalising with Sourav Ganguly. It was Dhoni’s 21st test win as a captain.
