New season, new faces; but the same result continues for Manchester United

Manchester United could not just come out from the hangover of the 2013-14 even after going through thorough changes in the squad as they failed to open their in the Barclays Premier League in the first match. Swansea City got better of a lacklustre Manchester United as they beat them 2-1 at Old Trafford. It has been the first time since 1972 when Manchester United has begun their season with a defeat as it was in 1972 that United began their campaign with a 2-1 defeat in the hands of Ipswich town.

epl2-300x225Right from the very beginning United was lacking the pace on the field. Ashley Young who had a decent time in the pre-season friendly looked a shadow of his own. Ander Herrera lacked the support that would have enabled him in controlling the midfield. And the neat result was that United conceded the first goal of the season in the 28th minute. Ki scored the opening goal for the visitors as they went into the lemon break with the home team trailing 1-0.

With the beginning of the second half Manchester united looked like scoring as Adnan Januzaj began to make inroads down the right. United got their rewards when Wayne Rooney put them back on level terms with a great back volley in the 58th minute. But United could not hold on to the lead for long. In the 78th minute Sigurdsson scored the second of the night for the visitors which turned out to be the eventual winner.

David Moyes had a winning start to the last season his team thumped Swansea 4-1 in the opener in the EPL last season. But Van Gaal could not match his predecessor for his team was suffering from the illness that has become chronic to the Manchester United side since Sir Alex Ferguson had left the helm. This defeat might have turned out to be a blessing in disguise for United for United now can go for players who can re-enforce energy into this slow side and bring back the lost glory.
