Sushma Swaraj demands death for child molesters

Leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj demanded strong actions against the brutal rape of a five-year-old in Delhi and asked for death penalty for those who molest children.

“Such criminals should be hanged as early as possible. There should be shock treatment for such a sick mentality,” Sushma Swaraj said on Saturday.

“Look at the way that child was abused, only someone who has a mental problem would do it. There should be immediate implementation of the punishment. This mental illness needs shock treatment. It now appears this is not a crime, it is a mental problem of people,” the senior BJP leader said.

“This is a sickening mentality that is emerging now. The new (anti-rape) law that has been passed needs new provisions. First, those who rape minors should get death penalty. Secondly, the brutality of the rape should also be taken into account. Once a few hangings take place, hopefully people like these would get scared. And don’t take months for action; it should be immediate,” Swaraj added.

Swaraj expressed her disappointment over girls’ safety in the national capital region. She said, she expected changes in the mindset after ‘Nirbhaya’ rape on December 16, 2012, but the situation did not changed and has worsened.
