The Supreme Court has rejected mercy plea of Deviderpal Singh Bhullar, the prime accused of 1993 Delhi bomb blast case. Earlier the President also rejected his mercy plea.
The Delhi High Court had ordered death penalty to Bhullar for the 1993 bomb blast at the Delhi Youth Congress office in which nine people were dead. His review petition was rejected in Supreme Court in 2002.
Bhullar’s mercy plea was dismissed by the President in 2012 after eight years.
Bhullar’s family filed a petition at Supreme Court seeking his execution to convert to life imprisonment as there has been severe delay in his punishment and it is violated the fundamental right of a person under Article 21 of the Constitution.
The Supreme Court bench comprising Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice S.J. Mukhopadyay however rejected Bhullar’s plea on Friday saying, he had failed to make any case.
