Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) has come out strongly in criticism to a 4-day ban imposed on meat, in the BJP-ruled Mira-Bhayander area of Mumbai, following the Jain festival of Paryushan, which has commenced from today.

MNS said it would gather in Mumbai’s Dadar to sell meat and oppose this ban. Shiv Sena too, said that there shouldn’t be any ban as such and that it would ensure there is no ban on meat for eight days. Ironically, the Congress-NCP too, came ahead to oppose the ban, which was first introduced as a two-day ban by the then Congress government, in 1994.

The ban on meat is imposed every year during this festival week. However, this year, it rolled into a controversy as the ban period was extended.
