Pune Techie Murder case: HRS founder arrested

The Hindu Rashtra Sena Founder and Chief, Dhananjay Desai has been arrested by the Pune Police. This arrest by the police, in the city there, comes after 20 Hindu Rashtra Sena activists were arrested by the Pune Police in Mohsin Sheikh Murder case. According to the information, Dhananjay Desai was to be produced before the court this noon. The arrest of Dhananjay Desai is the 21st arrest in this whole murder case.

Remember, all these things happened after some obscene messages were posted on social networking site Facebook. Even though the message was not posted by Mohsin yet he was targeted and killed early this month.

The Hindu RashtraSena Founder and Chief,Dhananjay Desai The police, currently, are questioning the suspects that have been arrested in this gruesome murder. A senior police official who is supervising the probe told The Times of India, “Investigations revealed Desai had conspired with other activists to commit Mohsin’s murder.”

Dhananjay Desai already has 20 cases registered against him which mostly consist of rebelling and provocative speeches against religions. The Hindu Rashtra Sena came into existence when Dhananjay Desai established it in Pune as the age of 14. The organization is committed to strengthening the Hindu’s.

Hindu Rashtra Sena is the same organization that had come under limelight when they ransacked the office of Star TV in Mumbai. The channel had basically aired a show on which a Muslim man who had married a Hindu woman had appeared. In protest to this, the HRS stormed inside the office of Star TV.

  • Facebook Post:

Communal tension was witnessed in Pune after some derogatory images of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj, his son Sambhaji Maharaj and Bala Saheb Thackeray were uploaded on facebook. Protests erupted in the city and nearly 200 buses were destroyed on the streets of Pune. The police arrested 180 people into the matter.

  • The Murder:

Mohsin Mohammed Sadique Sheikh was an IT professional, working as a Manager of private firm in Maharashtra’s Pune city. He and his family resided in Pune’s Hadapsar area. On June 2nd, when Mohsin and his friend Rafiq were returning home after the Namaz, they were suddenly attacked by members of Hindu Rashtra Sena.

While the mob trapped Mohsin, his friend Rafiq managed to escape the spot. The mob consisting of members of Hindu Rashtra Sena attacked Mohsin with sticks which ultimately led to his death. After attacking Mohsin a message was circulated within the members of Hindu RashtraSena that the first wicket has fallen.

Techie killed in PuneAfter this draconian attack on Pune’s techie, protests gripped up. Several NGO’s and student unions took to streets and protested against this killing. According to a senior police officer, “Mohsin wasn’t attacked because he was taken to be the one who had uploaded an offensive facebook post, but simply because he sported a beard and was wearing a Pathan suit which marked him out as a Muslim”.

  • Reactions:

Founder of Pravah and Author Arjun Shekhar spoke to Spectralhues this afternoon. He termed this incident as ‘deplorable.’ He said, “There were always trolls on FB before the election but now they are coming out of their caves and claiming the streets in a triumphalist way. That is indeed scary.”

Journalist Hepzi Anthony said, “This is pre-election preparation in Maharashtra meant to polarize the state and garner benefits in later election. Creating communal divide is a shortcut method that lazy political parties r discovering or rather re-discovering.”

Supreme Court Lawyer Prashant Padmanabhan has called this incident as ‘gross.’ He said that violence cannot be justified.

National Award Winning Writer Faraz Kazi told Spectralhues, “No murder is acceptable and that too of an innocent. It’s a heinous crime and the perpetrators must be punished. Fighting on religion doesn’t unite us and what doesn’t unite us, should be eliminated. And so should the people who ignite animosity between communities.”

Nadeem Khan, webmaster at Yahoo said, “He was killed because he was having a beard and was wearing a pathan suit that indicates that he is a muslim. They have killed a person who came out from Masjid after finishing his payers and was innocent with no mistakes done. Is the democratic country only meant for Hindus and other religions and not for Muslims?”

Mohsin’s father yesterday met the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Prithviraj Chavan. Chief Minister has promised him that speedy trial will happen into this case. The state, previously, had also given Mohsin’s family a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh.

This incident is indeed condemnable. It is really wrong that an innocent person is killed just because he belongs to a certain religion. It is of utmost importance that every religion should be treated equally. After all everybody born in this world is a ‘human’.
