An agreement that allowed the Army to carry out strikes and other riots in Myanmar was facilitated by one signed between the two countries during the UPA regime in 2010, the Congress stated on Wednesday.
“I want to say that the government should not politicise the issue. Our brave soldiers deserve full credit for what they did. But the I&B Minister [for State] Rajyavardhan Rathore’s statement on TV was different from what the Army stated,” Congress leader Ajay Maken remarked in his statement. “I don’t know if Mr. Rathore had the permission of his higher-ups for saying what he said on TV. While he claimed our Army had gone inside Myanmar, the Indian Army had said the strikes were carried out along the border between the two countries,” he further said.
The agreement to facilitate such strikes was signed between a joint secretary of the Union Home Ministry and a commander of the Myanmar government back in December 2010. “I do not wish to dwell on this issue any further,” he concluded.
