Narendra Modi shortlisted for Time’s ‘Person of the Year’

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been short listed for Time magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’ title along with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, US President Barack Obama, Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and Britain’s new heir Prince George.

ModiOut of total shortlisted 42 world personalities, Modi is the only Indian there. Time will announce the ‘Person of the Year 2013’ next month. Although Time’s editors will choose the winner but it has also asked readers to vote for the person whom they think ‘most influenced the news this year for better or worse’.

On BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Modi, Time said, “the controversial Hindu nationalist and CM of the Indian state of Gujarat is the most likely candidate to unseat India’s ruling Congress party in the world’s largest democracy.”

Some of the other personalities in the short list are: Syrian President Bashar Assad, New Jersey governor Chris Christie, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, J P Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Pope Francis, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
