After Italian President Giorgio Napolitano had hit out at India over the delayed trial for two Italian marines who are charged with murdering Indian fishermen, Italy today has recalled its ambassador Daniele Mancini from India.
The Italy Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying “a new and unacceptable delay by the Indian Supreme Court” has intensified the rift between the two countries.
“Sometimes it seems that we are the only nation where elections can create problems. (But) they also create trouble in India,” Napolitano had earlier said.
Earlier Indian government has informed the Supreme Court that the government has customized its order and Italian marines – Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone – will not face death penalty.
