5 killed in Patna serial blasts

Five people were killed and over 80 injured in serial bomb blasts in Patna on Sunday, just few hours before BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’ hunkar rally at Gandhi Maidan.

5 killed in Patna serial blastsA total seven exploitations have taken place in Patna – six near the rally and one in the railway station. Initial reports indicating a pre-planned attack and conspiracy.

The first bomb blast took place at the Patna railway station, the second blast took place near the Eliphiston movie theatre in the city and another blast took place near Gandhi Maidan where Modi was scheduled to address a huge rally.

“The first blast took place in the toilet of a railway station and the other 5 blasts have taken place near the Gandhi Maidan,” said, Minister of State for Home Affairs, RPN Singh.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condemned the attack and promised a speedy investigation.

“The Prime Minister condemns the blasts which occurred at several places in Patna. He appeals to the people to maintain peace and calm,” the Prime Minister Office’s said on twitter.

Patna_blastNational Investigating Agency has rushed to the spot to take over the investigation. Police has arrested one person from the Patna train station who is reportedly confessed. Four people also were detained by the police for questioning.

After an emergency meeting, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ruled out possibility of the security lapses at the venue of Modi’s rally.

“I assure the BJP that there were no lapses in preparation on our part,” Nitish Kumar said.
“The day and timing of the serial blasts indicate that there was an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere in the state,” Nitish Kumar told reporters.

“Some elements want to disturb the amity in our state. It may be political opposition to us. No political party, irrespective of ideology, should let such elements succeed,” he added. “”The security agencies will surely track the people behind these blasts and the conspiracy will be exposed.”

“Blasts in Patna are deeply saddening & unfortunate. Condolences with families of deceased & prayers with injured. I appeal for peace & calm,” Narendra Modi later twitted.
