Go home Indian Media, say Nepali Twitteratis

The Indian media has provided the whole world with minute to minute coverage of the Nepal earthquake. But at some point, the competition to report first was so much, so increased, that the media became very insensitive towards the harsh situation in Nepal.

safeImage#GoHomeIndianMedia became the top trending hashtag on Twitter on Sunday. The Twitteratis in Nepal were so enraged by this insensitivity. This hashtag had collected up to 144,000 tweets by the evening.

TV Channels were accused for ‘shoving’ microphones at suffering victims and have been blamed for gross misconduct. In some situations, they were even confronting the security forces at the site of destruction. They barged in on family cremations, questioning the grieving relatives.

The Indian media reportedly, had been accused of ‘showing’ the efforts of the Indian Army and the Indian disaster relief personnels at work in Nepal.

The Indian news channels were the first ones to be on grounds of destruction. It was their pictures and stories that one could see while sitting at home. As the coverage was provided worldwide, a major response from people was received. Many NGOs and celebrities got engaged in providing relief funds for the affected country. But due to the cut throat competition in the reportage, the media may have exaggerated.

“Stop your media-quake!! We are already in pang by devastating earthquake and your news are not helping the victims!!” a victim tweeted.
