Court asks CBI to record the statement of Dr Manmohan Singh in Hindalco Allotment

Rejecting the closure report in the coal block allocation scam, the special court on Tuesday asked CBI to further investigate into Kumar Mangalam Birla’s company Hindalco and record the statement of former prime minister and then coal minister Dr Manmohan Singh. The court also ordered CBI to probe the allegations involving former coal secretary PC Parakh.

“I have ordered further investigation. I desire that statement of then coal minister (Manmohan Singh) be recorded beside other officials,” the judge said, adding that the agency to file a status report on January 27.

The CBI submitted closure report against Mr Birla and PC Parakh saying there was not enough evidnce of wrong doing in allotting coal block to Hindalco.

“The evidence collected during investigation did not substantiate the allegations levelled against the persons named in the FIR (first information report),” CBI said in a statement.

However, the court slammed the CBI and asked to explain why it was in “in such a hurry” to close the Hindalco case.
