After Gujarat, now its Tamil Nadu’s turn. Tamil Nadu made mandatory to have chess classes in schools to improve cognitive skills of students from next academic session.
Recently the President of World Chess Federation, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, met Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and convinced her to adopt the program in government and aided schools to help the student to improve their mental skill such as perception, reasoning, judgement and knowledge.
Additional Chief Secretary T S Sridhar told media, “The chess programme will give children in the seven to 17 age group an opportunity to test their skills. Training will be given to physical education teachers and one or two others in each school so they can train the children”.
