Pakistani soldier stoned to death for ‘love’

A boy from Punjab province Anwar Din (27) was publicly stoned to death on the order of a tribal court in Pakistan’s lawless border region Kurram for having an affair with a local girl Intizar Bibi (19).

A Pakistani soldier Din was posted last year at Parachinar in Kurram where he met Intizar Bibi and their love affair soon blossomed.

However, because Bibi is Shia and Din was Sunni,  their love was not accepted by the tribal ‘jirgas’ (panchayats) and the court ordered stoned to death for Din in order to restore ‘honour’.

Munir Hussain, the head of the local jirga said, “The girl left her home on Monday and met Anwar Din when villagers saw them. We took the girl into custody and took the boy to the local graveyard where he was stoned to death and buried.”

“The army is here for our security but if they engage in such activities we will not let them stay here. This is an insult to tribal customs. We will revolt against this,” Hussain added.
