Iraq Crisis intensifies; ISIS declares Islamic States in Iraq and Syria

 

The Iraq crisis are turning to worst with the latest update coming in that ISIS has established Islamic state in Iraq and Syria. These major crises of Iraq are taking worst turns now. Reports claimed that the ISIS (Islamic States of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIL) is claiming to be the leader of the Muslims across the globe.

Al Jazeera reported that Sunni militants in Iraq announced creation of Islamic state, entering from Aleppo in Syria to Diyala.

Also, from Aleppo in Syria, a shocking incident came into limelight. ISIS militants there carried out execution of 8 men in the eastern region of Aleppo in Deir Hafer.

ISIS declares Islamic States in Iraq and SyriaA report published in ALMONITOR’s Iraq Pulse reported that Iraqis feared uncertain future in areas under ‘Islamic State’.

A message was circulated on Friday by Abu Mohammed al- Adnani al- Shami who is supposed to be the ISIS chief spokesperson. In the circulated audio message, it was delivered that al-Baghdadi is the emir of the new caliphate. The ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been named as the caliph of this new Islamic state.

The Guardian reported that a British academic said new statement suggests ISIS is now challenging al-Qaida for global leadership of the jihad movement.

  • Caliphate and Caliph.

A caliphate is an Islamic state led by a supreme religious and political leader. This leader is named as a caliph. A Caliph is said to be the head of state in a caliphate.

Setting up a caliphate ruled by the strict Islamic law has long been a goal of many jihadist, the BBC reported.

Charlie Cooper, a researcher for the Quilliam counter-extremism think-tank, while speaking to The Independent said, “There hasn’t been a Caliph since the Ottoman Empire outside of the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam, and the Caliph is appointed as the only legitimate successor to Prophet Mohammed.”

  • Iraqi Army’s stance.

The army in Iraq continued to give a tough fight to the militants to gain back the states. According to the PTI news, Iraqi forces pressed a counter-attack on Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit today as Russian delivered Sukhoi warplanes to aid Baghdad in what diplomats warn in an existential battle against Sunni militants. With this, Iraq has readily taken help from Iraq Crisis intensifiesRussia. Reports claimed that Russian Fighter jets have been sent to Iraq.

The United States too, on the other hand, is helping Iraq to fight against the ISIS militants.

According to the reports in the State Television, there in Iraq, Security Forces have cleared the centre of ISIS in Tikrit. However, the local residents there deny this.

Tikrit is an Iraqi city, located 140 km northwest of Baghdad. Earlier, on June 11 this year, the city had fallen over to the militants after ISIS captured it. And when the Iraqi army attempted to regain the city back, a fight had broken there.

Tikrit is the same city where 46 Indian nurses are stuck. These nurses used to work there. The Indian government however, is leaving no stone unturned to get them back.

  • Israel’s stand.

Even as Iraq crisis continued to intensify, Israeli Prime Minister has recognized for Kurdish Independence. Russia Today reported that Israeli PM Netanyahu endorses Kurdish independence citing chaos in Iraq.

Meanwhile, reports fromAgence France Press suggested that Israel is considering banning the radical wing of the Islamic Movement over its ties with Hamas.

  • Indian’s in Iraq.

India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met top Indian ambassadors from the Middle East states. During this meeting, she sought assistance related to the Indian’s in Iraq.

Iraq Crisis intensifies; ISIS declares Islamic States in Iraq and SyriaSyed Akbaruddin, official National Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (India) informed through a tweet that India’s Camp offices in Najaf, Karbala & Basra are ready to provide air tickets to Indian citizens wanting to return home.

Minister Sushma Swaraj also met the families of Indian Nationals captive in Iraq to assuage concerns.

In the aftermath of the meeting with the ambassadors the Indian government confirmed that the abducted Indians are safe there. PTI news reported that Air India today kept 3 planes on standby for evacuation of Indian nationals in strife torn Iraq.

Indian Government has also launched a 24×7 Helpline.
