Former Italy PM Silvio Berlusconi faces one year jail

A court awarded one year jail term to former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi in connection with illegal wiretap banking scandal on Thursday.

Former Italy PM Silvio Berlusconi faces one year jail76-year-old Berlusconi was accused of organising an illegal wiretap of a confidential recording between police and his political rival in 2006 over a bank acquiring and leaked it to his brother Paolo Berlusconi’s newspaper, Il Giornale daily.

Silvio Berlusconi’s brother was convicted and sentenced to two years over the same case.

Berlusconi, who denied any misconduct, appealed against the order.

Berlusconi’s trial on paid sex with juvenile will come up on March 18 and tax fraud case in connection with his Mediatrade broadcasting rights firm will come up on March 23.
