Satya Nadella becomes new Microsoft CEO

As speculated India-born Satya Nadella became the new Microsoft CEO, replacing Steve Ballmer.

The company has also announced that Bill Gates will step down as chairman and devote his time as a technology adviser to the company. He will, however, remain a member of the board.

“Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together,” Microsoft co-founder and first CEO Gates said in a statement.

 “His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth,” he added.

In his first mail to the employees Nadella said that he has requested Gates to focus on technology and products.

“I’ve asked Bill to devote additional time to the company, focused on technology and products,” 46-year-old Nadella said.
