Doris Lessing – The Author of “The Golden Notebook” Passed Away

Doris Lessing , the Nobel Prize winner author has passed away. She was 94.

Her publisher Harper Collins said, the veteran author died peacefully early Sunday. Her family requested privacy of the matter. Her real cause of death is not officially Doris Lessingstated till now.

Lessing was the author of more than 55 works of fiction, opera, nonfiction and poetry. She explored topics ranging from colonial Africa to dystopian Britain, from the mystery of being female to the unknown worlds of science fiction.

She won Nobel Literature Prize in 2007. She was widely known for her work “The Golden Notebook.” This novel which covers a range of previously unmentionable female conditions as menstruation, orgasms and frigidity was released in Britain in 1962. But it was not allowed to be published in France or Germany. It was considered to be inflammatory. But, this work of her made her an international literary icon of woman liberation. But after two decades of its release when it was released in China – 80,000 copies were sold in barely two days.

One of her works “Adore” has been adapted as a movie this year starring Naomi Watts this year only. She is survived by her daughter Jean and granddaughters Anna and Susannah.
