Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Revolution 2020’ to be made into a film

The Disney UTV who had bought the movie rights of popular author Chetan Bhagat’s bestselling novel Revolution 2020 in 2011, is all set to start filming next year.

Confirming the news, director Raj Kumar Gupta said, “When I read the novel, I was quite moved. It is a very simple and heartfelt story about being young, being confused, being in love, getting corrupt… I am looking forward to writing and directing this book for the screen.”

Chetan Bhagat is very excited and happy with this development. Earlier UTV also made a successful film ‘Kai Po Che’ out of his best-selling title ‘Three Mistakes of My Life’.

“It is an intense love story set against the backdrop of corruption in the education sector, which affects millions across the country. I can’t wait for the three characters to be cast and brought to life,” said, Chetan Bhagat.

“We are excited to have played the catalyst in bringing Chetan and Raj Kumar together. Chetan had shared the draft of his book with us even before it was published and we instantly reacted to its cinematic potential. It has an incredibly well-graphed storyline and the issues it deals with are those that today’s youth will instantly relate to and identify with,” Siddharth Roy Kapur, Managing Director, Studios, Disney UTV said.

The story of Revolution 2020 revolves around three childhood friends — Gopal, Raghav and Aarti.

Chetan Bhagat’s first three books “Five Point Someone”, “One Night @ the Call Center” and “The 3 Mistakes of My Life” have already been made into movies. The shooting of “2 States: The Story of My Marriage” is currently on full phase and scheduled to be released in February next year.

The shooting of ‘Revolution 2020’ is expected to begin mid-next year.
