The hilly capital of Nagaland and one of the three cities to get Municipal council status, Kohima is a beautiful city having the shower of nature. The tribal population here has colourful costumes and jewellery. The name, Kohima, was officially given by the British as they could not pronounce the Angami name Kewhima or Kewhira. To promote the tribal culture and encourage inter tribal interactions, The Hornbill festival is celebrated here every year which attracts many tourists. Along with the colourful and joyous present Kohima had a bitter past. According to the historians Kohima witnessed one of deadliest fights of World War ll. The British built Kohima war cemetery in the memory of the brave who lost their life in World War 2 which still stands erect on the grounds of Kohima. Apart from the memorial other tourist attractions are Kohima Cathedral, State Museum, Dzukou valley and japfu peak which are best picnic spots for nature and adventure lovers, Intanki Wildlife sanctuary, Kohima zoo and Mokokchung. Kohima is an ideal place to enjoy the beauty of nature relax.
