Mufti Mohammad Sayeed sworn-in as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir

People’s Democratic Party leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has sworn-in as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. With this the 49-day-long Governor’s Rule in the state has ended after both parties have agreed to follow a Common Minimum Programme (CMP). Sunday also marked the beginning of a new era with the BJP for the first time in the history becomes a part of the government.

Along with the 79-year-old Sayeed, Nirmal Singh took oath and became the first BJP Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at Jammu University’s General Zorawar Singh Auditorium where the oath taking ceremony was held. He was accompanied by several BJP leaders like Amit Shah, LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

“The PDP-BJP government is a historic opportunity to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and take the state to new heights of progress,” PM Modi said.

Congratulating the new chief minister, former chief minister Omar Abdullah, tweeted, “Congratulations to Mufti Mohd Sayeed Sb (sic) on assuming the office of CM of J&K. I wish you all the very best for your term as CM.”
