Carrying forward the measures taken by AAP in its previous 49-day tenure, power tariffs were halved for families consuming up to 400 units a month and free 20,000 litres of water will be supplied to every household in Delhi. The AAP Government fulfilled these major campaign promises on Wednesday making the residents of Delhi ecstatic.

The Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia said at a press conference that the power subsidy would cover around 36 lakh households in Delhi i.e almost 90% electricity consumers. Consumers who utilize more than 400 units will not recieve any subsidy.
The power subsidy will be functional from the next month. It is expected to cost the state government Rs 70 crore in March and Rs 1,427 crore in the next financial year (April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016).

Sisodia restated the guarantee given by the previous AAP government that the power grant would be provided only till Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) shares the results of the inspection of the distributing companies’ finances.

About the water scheme, it is expected to benefit around 13 lakh families and cost the government Rs.20 crore in March and another Rs.250 crore in the next financial year.
Using the BIS standard of 135 litres per capita per day, the amount of 20,000 litres was decided for an average of five members per family. The people will also not pay for sewerage charges.

However, if the family consumes even 1 more litre over 20,000, they will have to pay for the entire usage i.e. 20k litres plus the extended amount of water used is payable. The water bill will be Rs.884 rather than Rs.0 if a single litre of water above 20,000 litres is consumed in a month.
