US Secretary of State John Kerry met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and said that President Barack Obama is looking forward to a meet him in September to have an “ambitious new agenda” in the bilateral ties between India and US.
US secretary of commerce Penny Pritzker accompanied Kerry in meeting with PM Modi.
In the meeting Kerry raised several issues including India’s stand in the WTO. Kerry said India has sent out wrong signal by refusing to sign the global trade deal. The pact proposed $1 trillion deal collapsed after India demanded concessions on food stockpiling.
“Failure to sign the Trade Facilitation Agreement sent a confusing signal and undermined the very image Prime Minister Modi is trying to send about India,” a U.S. State Department official told media after the meeting.
