Slapstick Comedy Festival 2014: When Laughter Defeats the Winter Gloom

Celebrating their 10 years, The Slapstick Festival 2014 is celebrating the silent comedy at Bristol. The centerpiece of the festival is s the launch of what will be a year-long global celebration of the centenary of Charles Chaplin’s character The Tramp. It was first seen on-screen on 1914.

Chaplin’s biographer David Robinson will be presenting a visual history of the creation and evolution of the immortal character. This year also, the festival will bridge between the great clowns of silent comedy and contemporary majors of comic art. There will be celebrations of forgotten stars such as Constance Talmadge, Raymond Griffith and Max Davidson.

The festival will be for 3 days – 24^th, 25^th and 26^th January. There will be seventeen events lined up for these three days at the top venues of Bristol namely Watershed, Arnolfini, Colston Hall and Bristol Old Vic. On 17^th March, Barry Humphries will be accepting the prestigious Aardman Comedy Legend Award © for his exceptional genius.
