Making a Poem – A Review

In the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed.- Charles Darwin

Vihang A. Naik, the veteran poet from Gujarat, has won many improvising accolades likewise ‘Book Excellence Award’ 2017, ‘IndieReader Discovery Awards’ 2016 for his innovative creativity in versatile genre. His ‘Making a Poem’ has been anointed as an intriguing work in the contemporary society.

The poet here precisely profanes the known rhythm of poem and tries to usher ‘rhythm of mesmerizing metamorphism’ through his poem. Flamboyant Daffodils, Narcissistic Nature seems mellifluous to any teenager and sophomore but the same seems nostalgic to any matured man. This bunch of poems deciphers the real picture, mindset, perception of ‘cognitive mankind’.

The real picture of contemporary world here is spoken through the heart of the ‘pious poet’. A Human life has 4 phases, likewise literary creation of poet has assiduously crossed ‘myopic phase’ to the ‘ethos of emphatic mankind’. His every poem speaks of duality of nature where two parallel universe tries to decipher a collateral harmony.

Every poem is a gem in itself. To signify the latent beauty of the poems, poet here classifies his entire work in 5 divisions:

In the introductory part ‘Are you Looking for that Poet’  he speaks of  his art of writing. Like in ‘Disturbed Sleep’ he beautifully compares minnow mosquito to the soul of dead poets. It may seem odd/out of the box imagery but nurturing the nitty-gritty it speaks of subconscious mind which at one side sheepishly fighting with mosquito bite and simultaneously feeling paranoid at the haunt of dead poets. ‘Are you looking for that poet’– change in vision of the poet as he travels through the pages of life. He tries to remind his readers that this is not the age of  utterance of flamboyant fantasy, rather at this stage one will think of  hara-kiri of mankind  and write poems based on reality with a feather touch of imagery.

A poet as a young Man’ exactly follows what is being told subtly in the previous part. ‘At Seventeen’ , at the eve of self-dependence  while standing bare-foot at the edge of triumphant tolerance, one has to take a long leap from the state of ‘aimless cloud’ to ‘claustrophobic cumulonimbus’. With the advent of adverse maturity, the naked face of a man gets disclosed through the mirror of his mankind, where he glares with utmost gravity atthe lassitude of his face which has lost to beam like before. The same perception is being manifested through ‘A Poem Profiles’. It seems that the poet’s mind is roaming like a bohemia in the infinite loop of time where he is seeing everything with bewilderment.

‘Making a Poem’ part carries a message of catharsis through its different creations. ‘Matter of Life’ sounds melodious through its uncanny speculation. It deciphers that ‘Time and Tide waits for none’ yet the beauty of life is established through its momentary capriciousness.

‘The End of an Affair’ is a sweet say as it vindicates how a poem is created without any plan and prejudice. A poem engulfs like a wave through the romantic heart of the creator and thus creates an atmosphere of camaraderie at the end of it.

‘Making a Poem’ touches my heart like a melodious memoir of Tagore’s Gitanjali – ‘Where The Tireless Striving Stretches its arms towards perfection’. The poet here sets a practical example of making a poem through mythological metaphor and philosophical satire. Here the cathartic poet compares pen maneuver with that of a snake, spreading the essence of tipping creativity with the appeasement of the sagacious sage ‘Viswamitra towards the seduction of mischievous Menka’.

‘A Poem Comes Alive’ seeds the fruit of tolerance, perseverance and passion through the lights of words and rhythm . ‘A Poem’ gives the significant picture of Human emotions and Humanity. It speaks that to be human, empathy is needful otherwise breath is as petty as animal or birds. Emotion must come like water forming wave of words and ultimately creating a worthwhile poem.

If one is searching for a lucid and crystal – clear description of poem, then ‘A Poet‘ part will be the indispensable answer. ‘Wanted’ gives one an idea of the ‘chutzpah and catharsis’ as experienced by the thoughtful poet in the mid of the night. There is a say that ‘If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun – APJ Kalam’s words are echoing through the words of the poem. Every poem is a mirror of the environment we live in, experience we count in. The poet says that flood of words of the poem is the coincidental outburst of emotions which he has experienced in his day to day life -‘In Rains’.

Every appealing poem comes from the aimless mind of the creator, when his mind is free to fly like a bird against the sun or is roaming like a stranger in the streets of the city in search of inevitable answers – ‘Making of a Poet’

Poems are meaningful outflow of emotion, this message is invoked through the last poem of the book – ‘The Poet’. It speaks of a man who is trying to cherish his life charismatically within the claustrophobic atmosphere. The poet ushers that emotional wing of imagination is finding solace in the book and pen. Inevitable exasperation of ‘city-cacophony’ rests within serendipitous pages of the poem.

For poetry lovers, this is a golden opportunity to come across such an amazing book. So place your order ASAP since the stock is running out very fast.
