Literally meaning “Protector of Moon God” and the home of one of the 12 Jyotirlingai, Somanth Temple is one of the important religious places. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Somnath Temple is located on the right shore of the Arabian Sea in Junagadh District in Gujarat. This legendary temple has Chalukya style of architecture and consists of the Shikhara, Garbhgriham, Nritya Mandapa and Sabha Mandap. The soothing chants of “Shiv Bhajan” and the sound of bells, drum beats and the aroma of essence sticks on the temple give the pilgrims an unforgettable experience. This small historical and mythological town enclosed the beach has many other attractions for tourists like Somnath Museum, Somnath Beach, Junagadh Gate, Balukha Teertha, Akhilabai temple and Mai Puri. Somnath Temple draws major number of devotees during Kartik Poornima i.e. a full moon day on November/December.
