Tripura

On the South –Western tip of the North Eastern wing of India, lies the third smallest yet culturally magnificent state of Tripura. The ancient home of the Bodos, Tripura is a state of unique cultural synthesis and fascinating folklore. The most populated among the “Seven Sisters” – it is a land of mystic beauty and thrilling history. The history that traces from the references of Mahabharata and the Puranas – the state is a home for some ancient tribes in India such as Tripuris, Reangs, Lushai, Jamatia, Noatias, and Halams.

A landlocked state as it is, the state has a varied and beautiful landscape with five mountain ranges run north to south, with intervening valleys. Forests cover more than half of the total area – making Tripura home for the maximum number of primate species in India.

The main attraction of the state being Agartala – a mine for the history buffs, it boasts of Ujjayanta Palace, Kunjaban Palace. These are the traces of the long ruling Manikya dynasty in the state.
On the banks of the beautiful river Gomati lie the remnants of the historic magnificence. The historic sculptures on the steep mountain walls and fascinating rock carvings – galore the state on a whole.
The state has a fragrance of old mysticism. The uncanny feeling of experiencing the less-known history – far from the exotic grandeur of palace-clad history, is a toast for the people. And, this is the romance of the place. The romance of its people. The romance of the sounds from their own bamboo-made flute, khamb, lambang. The romance of the Garia, Howzagiri, Bihu – the old tribal forms of cultural expressions. The romance of Deotamura. The romance of the “orange basket” – Jampui. The romance of the fascinating rock carvings –or the ruined palaces. . The romance of exotic natural beauty blended with the esoteric historic emblem. And, that is only to experience.
