Punjab, land of 5 rivers is situated in the north-west of India. “Makki-di-roti sarso da saag”, “Lassi”, “Tandoori-chicken” and energetic Bhangra – are synonyms for Punjab. Be it food, music or its rich culture Punjab has a lot to offer to tourist. Wide spread Mustard & wheat fields Punjab welcomes you with its open arms.

There are lots of cities in Punjab to visit – and one of the best cities to start with is “Amritsar” known as the “Mecca for Sikhs” or the “Holy City”. The holy city of Amritsar is known for “Harimandir Sahib” or popularly known as “Golden Temple”. Golden Temple is visited by millions of tourist from all over the world. The main complex of Golden Temple is constructed of gold and is the central religious place for Sikhs.

Just 1kmw away from Golden Temple is Jallianwalla Bagh – where the massacre of 13th April 1919 took place. The place has been converted into a monument with a Martyr Museum and public gardens. There are still visible Bullet marks on the wall which are left untouched.

When visiting Amritsar, don’t forget to visit Wagah Border i.e. Border between India & Pakistan. Wagah Border is located 30kms from Amritsar City in a village called Atari. Everyday thousands of Indian’s and Pakistani gather on both the sides to witness the “Retreat Ceremony” i.e. Flag down Ceremony. Crowds cheering and soldiers marching is a treat for visitors.

When in Amritsar, don’t forget to try some nice street food like Golguppas’, Chat and the local street food of Amritsar which is going to make your want more. Irresistible “Tandoori Chicken”, “Fish Pakora” and the famous “Amritsari Naan” with lots of Butter is surly going to make me put some calories, but worth it! For shopping Amritsar has the best “Handcrafted Punjabi Jutti” and “Pulkari Suits & Dupattas” to offer for all the shopaholics.

There are many cities to visit in Punjab, among them Jalandhar & Ludhiana are must. Both these cities are the richest and busiest cities of Punjab.
