CWG 2014: India won 2 gold on opening day

 

India snatched two gold medals on the first day of Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow. Sukhen Dey and K Sanjita Chanu won gold medals weightlifting making it overall medals tally to seven on the opening day.

K Sanjita Chanu won the gold in 48kg women weightlifting event, S Mirabai Chanu won silver and Kalpana Thoudam won bronze in the same category.

Judokas Navjot Chana won silver medal in the men’s 60kg, while Shushila Likmabam clinched silver in women’s 48kg events.

India's gold medalist Sukhen DeySukhen Dey won the gold in 56kg category making the day a memorable one for India.

In weightlifting also Ganaesh Mali bagged a bronze.

“I’m so happy to claim India’s first medal at the Games. I don’t feel like eating anything,” Sanjita said.

“I have won a bronze in junior World Championships, then a silver in 2010 CWG before today’s gold. I lost out on a gold in Delhi because of a technical mistake. I would say today’s gold is the best of my career. Now my target is to do well in the Asian Games,” Dey reacted after the win.
