Aakar Asha Centre for Enablement of Physically Disabled organizes “One Rupee Reconstructive Surgery” Campaign

Aakar Asha Centre for Enablement of Physically Disabled (formed under the N.Swain Memorial Trust ) today organised “One rupee reconstructive surgery campaign” at LB Nagar in Hyderabad. The camp was organised to enable the physically disabled people in the city to live a near normal life through the state of the art reconstructive surgery at the hospital. This noteworthy initiative is aimed at bringing the hospital’s highest quality surgical intervention to the physically disabled patients through the 6 month long campaign. As a part of the campaign Aakar Asha will organize camps across 12 locations in Hyderabad to identify the patients who can benefit from the procedure

The patients disabled due to external factors such as burns, accidents, tumors or any other physical deformations or growth disorder of any kind at birth need reconstructive surgery to help them lead a normal life. Aakar Asha’s new initiative will give the opportunity to identified patients to get the benefit of IMG_2514the procedure at a token charge of Rs 1. The entire cost of consultation, blood tests and reconstructive surgery which accounts for 75% of the total cost will be borne by the hospital. Aakar Asha invites the individuals or groups to support this noble cause by donating towards the cost of materials & disposables.

Speaking about the ‘one rupee campaign’, Dr. Bharatendu Swain, Director and Managing Trustee, of Aakar Asha Centre for Enablement of Physically Disabled , said, “The hospital was established with the mission to perform high quality reconstructive surgery for the needy people . To take our mission to the masses we are introducing six month long campaign in which we will reach out to those who are unaware that their lives can improve tremendously by a few simple surgical procedures”

He said further “We have noticed that with proper intervention transformation happens in many cases. The motto of this campaign is also to seek partners for mobilization of physically disabled persons to camps, reaching out to donors, matching donors and beneficiaries, follow up care of beneficiaries. The Campaign looks forward to credible groups to partner in this cause for raising donations. .”

About Aakar Asha Hospital

Aakar Asha is located in Kukatpally, Hyderabad. After 12 years of its functioning in which about 600 physically disabled persons were operated upon in camps and more than 300 young doctors trained in surgical skills, the IMG_2521Aakar Asha hospital was launched.

The hospital which commenced operations in November 2013, operates on a not-for-profit basis, 60 percent of patients being treated free of cost and the remaining 40% paying for care.

Aakar Asha hospital is dedicated to the rehabilitation of physically disabled persons in India by reconstructive surgery and physical rehabilitation. Physical disability comprises 49% of all forms of disability (NSSO) and affects nearly 3 crore Indians.

It is a 130 bed hospital with 56 beds operational. It is fully equipped with a Diagnostics facility, modern operation rooms (with operating microscope, power drills, etc), ICU, ER area, Rehab facility, etc.
