We want this case to be tried in a fast track court and justice be done as early as possible: Aditya Sachdev’s sister-in-law

In the Aditya Sachdev case, Rocky Yadav, the son of a JD(U) MLC, who was absconding for three days was finally arrested by the Bihar police. Anushka Jain spoke to Nammi Malhotra, Aditya Sachdev’s sister-in-law about what the family is now looking forward to. Below are the transcripts…

Ma’am, Rocky Yadav has been arrested, what is it that family is now expecting?

The police officers will also be doing their job only when politicians will support them. If the politicians don’t want the police to do their job, they won’t be able to do it. So, our only request to the government is that this case should be shifted to a fast track court and the punishment should be very, very severe to the perpetrator.

If we may ask you, how are the parents coping up with the pain?

Parents are still very shocked about this incident. Aditya’s mother still cannot come to terms with the fact that she would never see her son again and even Aditya’s father is in trauma. We just want the most severe punishment for him so that no man can ever think of committing such a crime.

Do you think the Nitish Kumar government will fulfill all that they have promised the family?

It took the police three days to search for him, which was not a good thing. But still they have found him, that too with a weapon, which is even good. But now the thing we really want is that Nitish Kumar government should give the case to a fast track court in the near future and give him as severe a sentence as possible. This is because everyone in Bihar has a mentality that he would spend some 6 months in jail and walk out free with bail and then nothing will be done.

Do you think somewhere that the police did not act upon the matter as seriously as they should have in the start?

See, we people keep on thinking that the police doesn’t do their work, but somehow it is so that the politicians have the power. Everything is not in the hands of the police, but it is in the hands of the politicians, in the current scenario. And knowing that he was the son of an MLC, everything was in his (Rocky Yadav’s) pocket. There was pressure of Manorama Devi on the government and he wasn’t caught until three days later. Somewhere the police was not strict and somewhere the police was trying to delay the process, which is extremely bad. We did have the dead body for 28 hours. We were waiting for the police to file an FIR, especially on such a case where it is absolutely clear how the crime was conjured. To register an FIR is in fact the right of every person. The ladies of the family had gone to the police station and they demanded that they file an FIR, but any how they did it after 28 hours only. And after 3 days Rocky Yadav was found at his father’s mixing plant in Gaya and now Manorama Devi is missing.

Do you think that nobody was expecting such kind of a pressure and that at some point the police and the politicians did think this would go unnoticed by the media like the other cases?

Of course, of course, the mentality of the police officers and politicians, especially in Bihar are like ‘Come on, so what if an MLC’s son has done such a thing like this, it is no big thing.’ In the beginning, at the very first moment the police was like it is okay, it is not a big thing. Fine, the media will screech, the family will cry but what we will say that will happen, what politicians will say that will happen.

They were not knowing that the media will help so much or that the case would become so large. I mean it was unexpected for the police and government. They must be in shock actually.

Your message to the politicians reading this interview.
