Sri Lanka thrashes Bangladesh in a one-sided affair

Sri Lanka made their presence felt in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 as they crushed Bangladesh to a demoralizing defeat. Bangladesh simply had no answer to Sri Lanka’s brutality as they succumbed to a 92-run defeat in their third match of the world cup.

Winning the toss Sri Lanka batted first and set up a huge total of 332/1 in 50 overs. Tilekaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara both slammed nig centuries as the Bangladeshi bowlers just had no answer to their supreme display with the bat. Lahiru Thirimanne missed out in this run feast as he got out on 52. But it could have been much different had Bangladesh not dropped Thirimanne very early in the innings in the slip cordon. Thirimanne did not score much but with Dilshan, set up a great platform for the others to come in and exploit. Sri Lanka did not need many of their batsmen to come out for Sangakkara and Dilshan played out the rest of innings. Dilshan remained not out on 161 off 146 deliveries, while Sangakkara remained unbeaten on 105 off just 76 deliveries.

It was a very difficult task for the Bangladeshi batsmen to chase down such a massive target. And their cause was not at all helped by the loss of wickets at regular intervals. Nobody just could play the long innings that would have provided stability to the run chase. And the inevitable happened. It was a defeat for Bangladesh by 92 runs. Quite surprisingly it was their first defeat in three matches for after starting with a win, they had their match washed out due to rain against Australia. And hence they have a good chance of qualifying to the next round if they can just give their best in the rest of their group matches.

For Sri Lanka it was a match where they found their top order in batting coming back top form which took away the pressure from the bowling. And the bowlers also did a good job. In all it was a perfect win Sri Lanka and after a poor beginning to the tournament, they are now looking like a formidable side.
