CSK dealt with a major blow

The future of the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier is suddenly looking dark. The Supreme Court today observed that the Chennai franchise of the Indian premier League should be “terminated without further enquiry”. And the reason cited by the judge for coming to such a decision is that Gurunath Meiyappan, one of the officials of the franchise, has been indicted for playing active roles in betting and match fixings.

Besides such a decision, the court has also ordered for a fresh election for the BCCI and it has stated that it wants all those who are directly or indirectly involved in this scam to stand aside. This puts N. Srinivasan, the cskCSKcurrent chairman of the ICC, in real trouble as he is seeking another term in the post of the chairman of the BCCI. Earlier this week the court’s observation regarding his duty had already given him a huge jolt. The Supreme Court stated, “Your (Srinivasan) duty as a president is to keep the show (IPL) running and to keep it clean. What is your duty as a team owner? To win the tournament.” On Thursday the special Supreme Court Bench brought forward questions regarding the administration of the two-time IPL champion franchise. They said, “Srinivasan’s position as CSK owner might have come in way of him conducting a fair tournament.”

This decision of the judges puts the future of the players in the CSK team in jeopardy. But they have to do things that will keep the game fair. If that does create a problem there is no room for any regret. After all everything is happening keeping in mind the bright future of Indian cricket. Also there shouldn’t be any panic regarding the future of the players for it’s not new in IPL that a franchise has been disqualified. There are other teams in the IPL who can take up players from the disqualified franchise. So what’s happening may just pave the way for a fair tournament where the spectators and fans will be able to watch good cricket, free from any controversy.
