Athelico De Kolkata beat North East United

(By Rony Dasgupta)

Kolkata 2-0 North East

Ok. The timing of the matches are not planned as expected from AIFF. They usually don’t perform things perfectly. The working professionals usually gets out from their office at around 6-7 and the matches of ISL ends by 9PM . So ISL has to continue minus the working class of people. But I was not going to stay content with it. So I downloaded the starsports.com app in my Anroid phone recharged my Vodafone SIM with 3G internet package. But even then Kolkata has so many places which doesn’t allow signals for sims. However still managed to watch most of the match and trying to write a report about it.

Athelico De Kolkata vs North East UnitedNorth East, place for hostile supporters. People here support team and it’s hard to find any spectator from the guest side. Its evident in the league matches as well. The handful die hard supporters who turns in for the guest side gets heroes ovation by the team members.

Today it was no different, whenever North East players got the ball, there was loud cheer from the crowd.
Moving on Athelico De Kolkata, which has formidable numbers of Spanish players have imported a new style in Indian football.Borja, Jofreand th legend himself Luis Garcia who know he other very well has formed an considerable unit. Their understanding is outstanding. Taking of their style they sort of tries to slow the game take it in their own pace. They know they have stars who know the game exceedingly well but don’t have that pace to carry on for the whole 90 minute. And if you have someone like Garcia in your midfield you can be sure whatever you do some killer passes will get deliver to the strikers. Ancient Rome had a fighting style, their foot solders would charge in and when the opposition would come charging they would retaliate their marksmen would fire arrows then the enemy would be drawn for combat with much lesser strength and the cavalry hidden somewhere would come down the flank and chop of the enemies leaving them shattered, confused and running for their lives. Modern football which has taken the place of war is no different when it comes to war style. Kolkata has imported this technicality where they score early and then sit back deep down the defence letting the opponent build and come up but only as far as the box which they manages to make crowded and then tries to launch a counterattack

Athelico De Kolkata beat North East United

Athelico created many opportunities in the first half with Garcia himself almost scored but thanks to a brilliant full length drive by North East goalkeeper, Alex he was denied. Garcia was visibly disappointed. Before that Borja tried a long ranger from the other half, just finding the goalkeeper out of line but goalkeeper saved it. It was then an wonderful chip by Garcia to find Fikru who received it in chest then took a volley with right leg and the ball found the net and Fikru find another chance to display his somersaulting ability. Garcia came close to scoring again when his head was just bit week to test the goalkeeper and then Nato’s head of Borja corner kissed the bar post. North East then had the possession in most of the match but hey never created that opening and hardly Subhasish was tested. One thing was heartening to see Denzil and Arab learning much .. Thy did not repeated their mistake of earlier match and stayed calm allowing the opponent player to deposit the ball to Kolkata defence. Denzil made few run down the wing as well.. .And on the dying minutes when North East was trying desperately to equalise, Pody scored the second getting chance because of Boithang lapse.

So 2 matches 5 goals none conceded with both wins Athelico are rocking it.

To wrap it up, there was unpleasant scenes, when borja was red carded, which could have been avoided, it was not important to make such an desperate stop as there was man covering in who could have checked Bartos. Also the ref could have avoided it with a warning like Raju Gaikwad was let of in the Athelico match, other night. Referring has to get better in India.
