Nepal’s authorities have ruled out the possibility of finding more survivors of last week’s earthquake under the debris and other rubble. The death toll so far in Nepal has crossed 7,000.

“We are trying our best in rescue and relief work but now I don’t think that there is any possibility of survivors,” stated the spokesperson for the Home Ministry,Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, to the AFP. The nation has in all suffered around many devastating casualties with approximately14,021 people getting injured in the 7.9 magnitude quake that occurred on Saturday. However, the fate of thousands of people in remote areas continues to remain under ambiguity as no official figure can be derived.

According to the officials, the death toll could still go up, as search and rescue efforts are still intense and are being continued in several hill districts including the regions of Dhading, Rasuwa and Sindhupalchok, relief co-ordinator Hemanta Pal stated in a statement to the media.

While the vast majority of casualties were in Nepal, about 100 people are reported to have died in neighbouring nations of India, Tibet, and Bangladesh. The Nepal earthquake has been hailed as one of the worst calamities ever.
