Vijay Rupani takes oath as Gujarat Chief Minister

New Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and 23 ministers including 9 new took oath on Sunday.

The new cabinet has eight ministers from the Patidar community who has been fumed with BJP over its demand for quota in jobs and education.

Narendra Modi and Amit Shah’s close aide and known for his organisational skills, Rupani, has been picked as CM by party on Friday, surpassing Nitin Patel, who was considered front-runner and Anandiben Patel’s choice.

However, Amit Shah needed someone at the top with organizational skills ahead of next year’s state election. To include large number of Patels into the cabinet also indicates that BJP is serious to appease the Patidar community who had been loyal to BJP for the last so many decades.
