Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru hanged

Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist and the master mind of 2001 Parliament attack, Afzal Guru has been hanged on Saturday morning at 8 am at Tihar jail.

Home Secretary informed the reporters, “Once the President rejected the mercy petition, the procedure was followed. This is according to the rule of law.”

Afzal Guru, the main conspirator behind the attack at Parliament in 2001, was given death sentence by Delhi court on 2002. He appealed against the order in Delhi High Court and later in Supreme Court. Both the Court rejected his plea. His wife filed a mercy petition with the President which was also rejected on February 3.

Nine security personnel were killed on December 13, 2001 during parliament attack.

A tight security has been imposed in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Delhi and Mumbai is also on high alert.
