In a spree of debates and other discussions revolving around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s academic qualifications, Congress, in yet another attack, seemingly alleged of some “discrepancies” regarding his date of birth, on Sunday.
Not just the date of birth but it also questioned the Gujarat University about the timings of revealing details of the PM’s Masters degree, which, apparently, it had refused to disclose earlier, citing confidential causes.
“In students’ register of MN College Visnagar (where Modi took admission in pre-science, equivalent to class XII) Sri Narendra Modi’s date of birth is mentioned as August 29, 1949. In his election affidavit, he did not reveal his date of birth, but mentioned his age. His official birth date, as available in the public domain, is September 17, 1950,” stated senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil in his statement to the press, alongwith showing a copy of the school register that had his name enrolled. He also firmly insisted as to why were there different dates of his birth on his passport and other essential documents.
The University of Gujarat, on Sunday, revealed details of Modi’s masters degree, stating that he had secured 62.3 per cent as an external student of the varsity (through correspondence). This comes in after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ‘criticised the functioning of transparency panel’. What cannot be comprehended is that when till today the information was regarded as highly confidential and not disclosed inspire of at least 70RTI petitions, the details were revealed overnight. Also, his Bachelor’s Degree remains untraceable, leading to another stream of disputes and debates.
