The capital is apparently being sanitized and secured to welcome the US president Barack Obama who would preside as the chief guest in the Republic Day events. Strict security measures have been undertaken which include ‘dog officers’ squad to secure Obama’s arrival and further stay in the nation.
The dog officers belong to the elite K-9 squad of the US Secret Service, one of whom was also on the mission to neutralise the then Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden. The squad, consisting of one-foot tall Belgian Malinois dogs and sturdy officers, are in the capital ahead of the President’s visit and are residing in the suites of a five-star hotel. The squad is a vital part of Obama’s security force which would be in the core security layer, carefully surveilling and inspecting.
While the dog squad has already arrived in New Delhi, the essential core team would be arriving along with the President.
While many pivotal issues are to be discussed in this visit of Obama, a senior renowned White House official has stated that the United States wanted to turn the ‘extraordinary’ potential of their developing relationship into concrete advantages for the citizens of both the nations. Deputy
National Security advisor Ben Rhodes has given inputs stating that energy policy and climate change have been given top-priority as matters of discussion, followed by the usual key matters of economy, defence and other regional and global issues.
‘As world’s two largest democracies, there’s extraordinary potential in the relationship. And so this trip comes at a time when we have a growing agenda with India’, Rhodes further stated in a conference call with the reporters.
