Cops question Sunanda’s son, says Mom was too strong to commit suicide

Shiv Menon, 21, son of Sunanda Pushkar negated the speculations of his mother committing suicide. Shiv, Sunanda’s son from her second marriage with Sujith Menon, says that his Mom was “too brave and strong” to end her own life.

He is now orphaned as his father passed away in a car accident in 1997 and then his mother in January 2014. “Anyone who knew my mother would simply know that she was too strong to commit suicide,” read the statement issued from a report.

A statement which was released on Monday also said that Shiv had thrashed the rumours of his stepfather, Shashi Tharoor being involved in the probe.

“(I) do not believe that Shashi was capable of harming her let alone the speculation that he could have taken her life. Shashi Tharoor would never physically abuse my mother. Though there were differences between them, they were deeply in love with each other,” he said.

Sunanda’s death was peaceful; she passed away in her sleep, a statement read. Sunanda’s remains were cremated at the Lodhi crematorium, with her son and father PN Dass in tears.

Her ashes were immersed in the holy Ganga, and at a prayer meet her son Shiv Menon described his mother as “an angel” who left this world for a better place. “She was an angel. She didn’t belong here; she is in a cleaner place now and looking upon us with a smile. She was really an angel,” he said. Speaking in the same prayer meet, her husband said that she made him feel complete.

“Sunanda was the light of our lives, luminous from within. She completed me. Today I feel a sense of incompleteness,” he said. “Please let her soul rest. I think that there has been enough attention drawn towards her in life, let us at least let her rest in her passing,” her grieving son added.
