Flood situation worsen in J&K, Modi reviews condition

The flood condition in Jammu and Kashmir got worsen as the death toll risen to over 160 and thousands of people had to abandon their homes and stayed in shelters.

This was the worst affected flood condition since independence, washing out almost 2,500 villages and killing hundreds of cattle. The districts of Anantnag, Kulgam and Pulwama have badly affected and continuous rain hampering the rescue operations.

Flood situation worsen in J&K, Modi reviews conditionAfter Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s Saturday visit, today Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the state to review the situations.

“If there is so much devastation in the city, I wonder what would be the situation like in rural areas,” said Rajnath Singh after his meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar.

“I want to assure the people and the government of Jammu and Kashmir that the central government stands besides you in your hour of crisis and we extend and we extend all necessary help to you,” he added.

PM Modi to visit areas of Poonch, Rajouri and Akhnoor later today.

Meanwhile J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said that his government is assessing the damage and doing everything to conduct rescue operations.

“Rescue teams are being sent from Patna and Ghaziabad, boats are being sent to Srinigar to conduct rescue operations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh national highways have remained closed and government also suspended all Hajj flights from Srinagar International Airport till September 12.
