Irom Sharmila arrested again!

Just three days after being released from custody following court’s order, human rights activist Irom Sharmila Chanu was arrested on Friday in Imphal.

Police forcefully arrested her from a temporary camp where she had been continuing her fast in protest against AFSPA. Police took her to the JNIMS hospital where she was being forcefully fed nasally.

Defending government’s decision Manipur deputy chief minister Gaikhangam said “The government’s duty is to save the lives of its citizens, for which she was picked up.”]

Irom Chanu Sharmila is on indefinite hunger strike for nearly 14 years, demanding withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Manipur.

A Manipur Court on Tuesday had ordered Sharmila’s immediate release from jail citing lack of evidence on attempted suicide charges.

Sharmila had told reporters after being released from the jail that she would continue indefinite hunger strike against AFSPA.

“The deterioration of my health during my struggle is not a concern,” Sharmila said adding, I’m not attempting to end my life.”

About Sprightly Spirit

“I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares more is none”. And all, may be. It may be the vigor. Or the spirit. Or the courage to avoid being “politically correct” or bent. And, ban all averse with immaculate overture of graciously fathomable words firm in views. Subtle. Justifying the undying conscience. Values. Knowledge. And, dares to stay true. True to own. True to the world. And, to the words. With a dream in eyes it exists. In you. In me. In all. The sprite that never shies away. The spirit that never dies!
