G7 decides to impose economic sanctions against Russia

Pro-Russian forces in eastern Ukraine have released one Swedish military observer out of total Eight European military hostages on Sunday on medical ground.

Putin Earlier in the day all eight observers were marched out under armed guard to show public that they weren’t ill-treated.

The Pro-Russian separatists have taken control in the eastern part of the country and have been fighting with the interim government in Kiev. The separatist leader Vyacheslav Ponomaryov has declared himself as the mayor of Slovyansk.

Meanwhile European Union and G7 countries have condemned Russia for trying to destabilise Ukraine.

Following the abduction of European military observers in Slavyansk on Friday night, by pro-Russian separatists, the leaders of G7 have decided to Ukraine Crisisintensify economic sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine crisis.

In a statement G7 countries said they are deeply “concern at the continued efforts by separatists backed by Russia to destabilise eastern Ukraine”.
Praising Kiev’s “restraint” action the G7 slams Russia of for taking “no concrete actions in support of the Geneva accord”. The statement also urged pro-Russia separatists to “leave buildings they have been occupying”.

After a conference call between British PM – David Cameron, the US president – Barack Obama, the French prime minister – François Hollande, the German chancellor – Angela Merkel and the Italian PM – Matteo Renzi, the G7 have decided to go ahead with the sanctions. Also Japan and Canada G7supported the resolution.

“The leaders also agreed that Russia had not reciprocated – including by not publicly supporting the Geneva accord, nor calling on armed militant groups to lay down their arms and leave the government buildings they’ve occupied – and had in fact continued to escalate the situation through its increasingly concerning rhetoric and threatening military exercises on Ukraine’s border,” a White House statement said.

“The president noted that the United States is prepared to impose targeted sanctions to respond to Russia’s latest actions,” it added.
