Julian Assange to give himself up to the UK police on Friday

His decision will depend on the UN Panel’s ruling of whether he has been unlawfully detained

London: Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, has been under the radar for deportation to Sweden, where he faces charges of sexual assault. However, he has refused to accept the allegation and has been under the wing of the Ecuadorian Embassy in West London since June, 2012, when he was provided asylum. At this point, the UK Supreme Court had already given the go-ahead to the extradition process against him. Yet, the UN Panel was requested to investigate the case im September, 2014.

The UN’s Working Group on Arbitrary Detention is expected to announce its investigative results on Friday, when Mr. Assange will accept ‘no meaningful prospect for further appeal’, if the ruling is to decide against him.  Assange,  a man who has for long been in the eyes of  the US authorities for uploading secret government data on Wikileaks, believes that the USA will persuade the Swedish for a transfer.

Said law-locked Assange in his Wikileaks statement, “Should the UN announce tomorrow that I have lost my case against the United Kingdom and Sweden I shall exit the embassy at noon on Friday to accept arrest by British police as there is no meaningful prospect of further appeal. However, should I prevail and the state parties be found to have acted unlawfully, I expect the immediate return of my passport and the termination of further attempts to arrest me.”

If the UN Panel votes in his favour, he will be a free man.
