Besieged Amirli town freed by Kurdish troops in Iraq

As U.S continues to help Iraqi army in this fight against ISIS, news comes in that Amerli – a town of Northern Iraq has been secured back from the ISIS militants. Iraqi soldier, with the help of U.S airstrikes were successfully able to enter this town today.

The breaking of this siege began after the speaker of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Abdul-Mahdi al-Karabalai, called to move and break the siege by ISIS on the town.

Besieged Amirli town freed by Iraqi troopsHaaretz, a middle east based news website carried an update that by 2:14pm, a military spokesman and a lawmaker said Iraqi security forces and Shi’ite militiamen have broken a two-monthsiege imposed by the Islamic State extremist group.

Rear Admiral John Kirby, Pentagon Press Secretary ad Spokesperson for SecDef Hagel tweeted that US military and Partners conduct humanitarian airdrops in Amirli, Iraq. US aircraft also conducted airstrikes nearby to support mission.

Today, the U.S, U.K, France as well as Australia had begun humanitarian aid drops like food, water and medical supplies, to help prevent a potential massacre.

According to the information that Spectralhues is accessing, The forces attacked ISIS from three areas, the army attacked from the south of Amirli in Adhaim, the Peshmerga attacked from the north in TuzKhormato, the militias attacked from the east in Kifri.

Amirli is a town in northern Iraq consisting of several Shi’ite Turkmen.

Amirli is one of those towns captured by the ISIS militants two months back when this whole thing escalated and has now been secured. Since then, the people residing in the town had to go through several hardships. The militants had fiercely prevented food, water and other necessary things from reaching people there. They had created a difficult situation for the residents.

People living in Amirli were subjected to various crimes ever since it was captured by the ISIS militants. The militants were also posing threats of a massacre.

On 23rd August, The United Nations envoy for Iraq had called for immediate action to prevent a possible massacre in this northern town of Amerli that was besieged by ISIS militants.

Currently:

A bit of relief has spread in the atmosphere of Almir town, at the moment, though slight fear continues to exist. After the brokerage of this besiege, the mood in the town became triumphant. CNN reported quoted al-Amirli who told them that residents waved the Iraqi flag and fired celebratory shots in air.
