Nepali Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, in his latest statement to the media said that the death toll could reach to 10,000 as survivors’ despair turned to anger at the government’s slow and ‘ignored’ response to the crisis and chaos unfolding and disturbing the country, with necessities lacking in quantity.

“The government is doing all it can for rescue and relief on a war footing,” Koirala said in an interview to the Reuters, “It is a challenge and a very difficult hour for the nation.”

The death toll in the nation alone rose to around some 5,057 on Tuesday, according to the reports of the nation’s EOC, which said that despite the deaths, more than 10,000 people have been injured. There are further warnings issued stating that the full extent of the tragedy would remain to be unknown until rescue teams have reached “flattened” villages in remote areas.

Persistent efforts to distribute aid and other assistance are proceeding at an ”agonisingly” slow pace, that has resulted into the people being provoked and angry. “Rescue operations are underway, and in many places where buildings have collapsed there might be people trapped,” stated Rameshwor Dangal, head of disaster management at Nepal’s home ministry.

It is reported that if the death toll reaches 10,000, it would be marked even higher than the 8,500 killed in a massive earthquake that had occurred in the year 1934 and that has often been regarded as the nation’s worst disaster till date.

Residents whose homes were flattened or totally damaged owing to the quake criticised poor organisation by the Nepalese authorities, stating that they had been left to fend for themselves for too long, even using their bare hands to search through the debris and other rubble for the trapped and struck.
