The 31-storeyed Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society that had been making headlines for quite a long time regarding several scams that had been unearthed, is in news, yet again.
Apparently, the residents of the society, the high rise in the area of Colaba in South Mumbai (SoBo) said on Friday that they would most definitely challenge the Bombay High Court order that had instructions in directing the Centre to demolish the infrastructure. The high rise also has flats belonging to the state’s powerful politicians and other dignitaries.
“We will appeal against the order in the Supreme Court. We have a lot of faith in the judiciary and we know that we haven’t committed any wrong. The High Court has granted a stay on the demolition for 12 weeks, and we will file an appeal within that time,” expressed Mr. Thakur, Secretary of the society and a retired defence estates officer. Apparently, he was was one of the thirteen implicitly charged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Thakur further stated that the land had been allotted by the state government, with permissions from the MMRDA to erect the infrastructure. However, the MMRDA in its say maintains that there had been no official authorisation in the case.
The order to demolish the construction first came in 2011 from the then Minister Jairam Ramesh, which followed an issuance of a ‘show-cause’ notice. Soon, the state agencies cut off the necessities like water and electricity and till date, the building remains to be without their supply.
