16-year-old’s terror plot intercepted in Australia

For the second consequent year, Australian police authorities have discovered and put an end to a terrorist plot that was to be enacted on the occasion of Anzac Day. Anzac Day is a major holiday celebrated by the Australians, that commemorates the very first World War I battle that had participation from both, themselves as well as New Zealand forces.

This year around, the police have found a 16-year-old teenager from Sydney to be the perpetrator. As per information received from them, it has been found that the teen was to attack a dawn service in Sydney. Frequented by thousands of civilians, including several war veterans, the ceremony fortunately occurred without disturbance. The teenager, who was arrested a day prior to the celebration near his home in Auburn suburb, was decidedly acting alone.

Although he was not allowed bail by the court, he is to be tried at a children’s court on Monday. If convicted in the plan to create terror, the teenager is likely to face lifetime imprisonment.

Justice Minister Michael Keenan was appalled by the child’s age, but he said that he was not taken aback, owing to a pattern of young fundamentalism that the authorities in Australia have often seen.. Said he at a press conference in Perth,” “Unfortunately, this is part of a pattern that we have been observing, where younger and younger people are targeted and incited to go and commit an act of terror.”

Similarly, last year, a British teenager (15), was imprisoned for life, charged for planning to behead police officials at a  traditional Anzac Day parade in Australia.
