The rear 10 coaches of 12223 LTT- Ernakulam Duronto Express derailed at 6:25 am on Sunday in the south of Madgaon, near Balli railway station. So far, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

The derailment may cause delays and cancellations of other trains on the Konkan Railway.

Vaishali Patange, the Konkan Railway chief spokesperson said,”An Accident Relief Medical Van (ARMV) and Accident Relief Trains (ARTs) have reached the site. KR officials have also rushed to the site for bringing about relief and restoration.”

The other passenger trains on the same route are likely to be regulated or diverted or cancelled. The Konkan Railway may arrange for trans-shipment of commuters. “We will provide details of the delays and cancellations in a short while,” she said.

“Inconvenience caused to the public is deeply regretted,” she added.
