5 years imprisonment for Salman Khan in 2002 Hit-and-Run case

SALMAN KHAN

The Sessions Court of Bombay pronounced a 5 year imprisonment for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, on Wednesday, imposing fine and refusing to agree for any sort of compensation for the victims. The Judge pronounced the quantum of punishment close to 1:30 in the noon, after which Salman was said to have broken inside the courtroom, while his lawyers and both sisters were with him.

After the whole hearing, Salman was in immense shock and broke down into tears for the second time, but his sisters, including Alvira Khan and Arpita Khan Sharma were seen comforting him in the courtroom.

Still to protect their side, Salman`s lawyers presented a Medical Cerificate in court which stated that Salman is suffering from a brain ailment, and if he gets in jail, his health will deteriorate and conditions might get worsened. Rejecting this health plea, he was sentenced to 5 years of jail by the Court.

At the time of filing this story, reports were emerging that Salman Khan would be taken to the Arthur Road Jail directly from the court. As a legally mandatory procedure Salman was also to be taken to the JJ Hospital for a medical check-up. His lawyers were in action to move to the High Court for challenging the 5 year jail term and applying for his bail.

Mr Prashant Padmanabhan, a Supreme Court Lawyer told Spectralhues, “The HC has got discretion to stay the sentence during the pendency of the appeal before it.  But it is not mandatory. It can grant him bail too, for which his lawyers will have to struggle,”

Salman Khan’s Bandra Residence Galaxy Apartment was under an immense sheet of security, with police barricades preventing his gathered fans from moving closer. There was a sense of disappointment outside his residence, among his fans, who were hoping for a lesser jail term or an acquittal. Salman Khan’s mother, reportedly, fell ill right after Salman was convicted earlier Wednesday, which is perhaps why Salman’s brothers left the courtroom even before the verdict was pronounced.

Around Rs.200 crores are riding on Salman, with his two films Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Bajrangi Bhaijaan still under progress. Only time will tell what will happen to his projects which are stretched up to 2017 and what depletion the box-office will be facing.
